Joke Mensah

Joke Mensah is a girl of seven years old and was found withering at the market in an area known as Teschie in Accra,Ghana on April 29th.

She was found by the social welfare in that region and was later brought to the DOVSU, a department for humanitarian and domestic affairs. The police carried several attempts of investigation but no leads were found to her origin.

However the report of the police indicated that Joke was 6 years of age and does not speak any native language of the area where she was found but can communicate in a language from a tribe known as Ewe. A report of the social welfare also suspected that a group of people attempted to use this girl for rituals to earn money but when they found out that was not possible with this particular child; they dumped her at the market place.

The social welfare brought this girl after the investigation to the nearest orphanage centre, New Life Orphanage Centre.

After several days of the incident, Joke was suffering from a sever fever and after visiting the hospital a report came out that this girl had a hole-in-heart condition, which is also known as Patent Duction Arteriosus (PDA).

The symptom of this condition causes its patients not to breathe well and can lead to sudden heart attacks.

After this diagnose, she was referred to the cardiothoracic centre, the surgeons were compelled to operate Joke Mensah in order to save her life.

The doctors in charge of this particular surgery reached out to CWAF for support and to collaborate together to help with the medical bills for the surgery.

With an agreement between CWAF and the Cardiothoracic Centre, the surgery was carried out on the 4th of November.

A surgery that was estimated eleven thousand Ghana Cedis was carried out for a discount of three thousand Ghana Cedis, with the larger part of expenses credited on the accounts of the Cardiothoracic Centre.

The surgery was carried out successfully and Joke Mensah is back home at the Orphanage Centre.

Glory be to God for this healing and thank you for your support and donations.
