The Story of Millicent
Millicent is 14 years old and lives with her grand mother in Tonto-krom village, where many children at tender age are being introduced to illegal mining. At the age of 10, she lost her mother trough a virus disease. Millicent could only recall the last moments with her mother when she was very ill and she was transported to a nearby hospital and later on received the news that her mother had passed away.
Not knowing whom her father is, her grandmother took her in and has been taking care of Millicent ever since the lost of her mother. Her grand mother is now old and can’t work as she used to. Because of financial difficulties, Millicent dropped out of school and has been left wondering around.
Life has become hopeless for her since her relatives do not have much that they can use to provide for her needs.
During our visit to Tonto-krom village on November 2012, Millicent pleaded with us to provide her with aid to enable her to go back to school and build a life.
