The Story of Akwasi Frankie

Where my feet can’t get me, knowledge will Get Me THERE

The story of Akwasi Frankie was captured by CWAF during the clothing distribution in the village of Apraku-krom. He was among the children that were present to receive gifts from CWAF and his condition quickly caught our attention.

Frankie lives in a small village called Akomeso, (30 people in population) the village is about 10 minutes walk from Aprakum-krom. He is 9yrs old and live with his uncle in that village. His father and mother are alive but due to extreme challenges in life, they have relocated to the northern part of the country for farming in order to earn their daily income.

Frankie

Frankie is a boy who is suffering from a paralytic disease that looks like Poliomyelitis. Since birth his legs were disabled and he has a deformed positioning of body from his waist downwards. Because of this, Frankie can’t sit properly and if he stands, his feet seem as if he is on a seat. Yet Frankie struggles to walk with it for miles and helps with house duties.

The touching part of his story is that despite the laughs and mocks that he faces from fellow children in the village, he still insisted to be registered at the nearest school to start education. His ambition and dream is to become an engineer. He has to walk every day almost 6.5 mile (10km) to school, and for his condition it is very tiresome. He sometimes gets lucky and when a car is passing by in the morning through the village road, they pick him and drop him at the school. Other times, drivers just pass him by.

With his current situation, it is more difficult to return home on foot after school, yet he goes to school every day with the determination to study.

His uncle supports him with Ghc1,- every day for school, which makes it Ghc5,- (€ 2) every week.

When he returns from school in the afternoon, the house will be empty and sometimes he has to wait till the uncle and wife to come from the farm before he can have his evening meal.

Even though he desires to study, the distance to that school is too far and it makes him weary. Besides his weariness, he also has to live every day within an environment that scares him because of the teasing among his fellow children.

Frankie

In order for Frankie to live and accomplish his dream we have to support him through Education Aid and bring him to a better school.

He will have more time to concentrate on his studies and prove that he can make it in life. A calm and secured environment will help him to improve and equip his talents.

With your help and support we can bring Frankie to a boarding school to study there. In a boarding school he will get the extra and necessary attention he needs and he will not struggle anymore to walk long distances to study. At the boarding school he will have all the necessary resources for his study within reach.

With € 75 a month we can support Frankie at the boarding school, and also care for his basic needs.

Through your help and sponsorship, Frankie will be able to study in a better environment, even with his disabilities.
