Education in Tanabori

Education has always been a vital key to development and according to the United Nations(UN) priorities, all children are entitled to equal education but this unfortunately does not apply to children of Tandabori, a small community in the upper west region of Ghana.

Although this community is located between two other communities, the children in Tandabori have to walk at least 7 kilometers to and fro the nearest school, this is difficult for the kindergarten children. Such long distances have resulted in these children working on farms as child labourers due to absenteeism thereby denying them formal education in the long run.

A concerned community member conversant with the value of education gathered the children and started schooling them under a big community tree as there was no proper place to hold classes. About 100 children gather under this tree. When it rains, lessons are stopped and the children have to run home.

With the funds collected by Coree World Aid Foundation (CWAF), the organization has recently been able to provide a few necessities for the children for example; white boards, writing slates, water bottles, clothes, etc. These are helpful in the children’s current situation. Special thanks to Annual Insight for their donations in support of educating these children.

Below you can find pictures and videos of the distribution of these materials.

Writing slates are recommended by the Ghana Education service to be used by beginners. They have the Alphabets and the numerical at the back of it so the children can be practising it anytime they want. According to the one in charge, they are always given either a letter or a number to learn writing as homework.

The next step

The people in this community earnestly desire a good future for their children and so they have availed land on which the school can be built.

This community is in dire need of proper safe school structures which can at least accommodate the little children of ages 4 to 8 years but any positive contribution towards the cause of educating their children is welcome.

CWAF would appreciate support towards the construction of classrooms so as to put a smile on the faces of the parents and children of Tandabori community.
